Diving into a Unique Steam Demo: Guiding a Turdy Character on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have discovered numerous interesting indie games. Yet, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure lets you play a protagonist that is literally a dung attempting to make its way to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."
The gameplay is easy to grasp: you only need a jump control. In 150 levels, encounter tough enemies and visit a shop to acquire customizations for your poop character.
Plan your actions carefully, since one wrong move forces starting over. Leap using bubbles to launch the poop to new heights, navigate fragile surfaces, and activate switches to unlock hidden paths. Gather UN-KOINS for buying tougher levels in which things gets crazy.
Visually, the game shows off vibrant environments and an amazing music score. The simple art featuring morphing abstract forms evokes memories of fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
Even though hard to think of other games where you play as a piece of feces, interactive entertainment frequently featured toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as plant food. Unsurprisingly, fecal references is present heavily in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its silly concept, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive accolades, including being named best at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is ready currently on Steam, with the final release set to launch on computers on November 19.
